“Mom, please pray for me.”
“You did not pray as yet.”
In the mornings, I start the day in prayer for my children. This week was hectic because my little ones were not feeling well. Like I usually do, one morning, I prayed a prayer of protection for my family, and our day was off to a bustling start. As the events of the morning unfolded, I forgot one of our routined prayers, and my daughter said, “Mom, you did not pray yet.” “Mom, please pray for me.”
I told her thank you for reminding me and I started to pray. Her prompting me to pray took me to the place where I started to think deeply about my choice to be intentional in prayer with my children.
Yes! I am intentional in prayer because this is how I want to be remembered. I want to be remembered as the mom that talks to God about any and everything.
How do you want to be remembered by your children?
As Christians, what we need to walk this life out is obedience to the word and constant communication with our Heavenly Father through prayer. Paying is what we are commanded to do.
Praying did not always come naturally to me because I felt I had to fluff up my prayer for God to hear me. This is not so. Whatever form our heartfelt emotions are poured out in, our Father understands them.
Hebrews 4:15 “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”
Romans 8:26 “Likewise, the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities; for we know not what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.“
I want my children to be comfortable with praying like they are with eating a meal or taking a bath daily.
I need prayer to be natural and needed daily, like dressing them, combing their hair, and packing their lunches. I want prayer to be an essential step in their daily routine that must be followed for smooth functioning.
I want them to pray when they wake up.
I want them to pray before they eat.
I want them to pray before they work.
I want them to pray when they feel afraid.
I want them to pray before bed.
Whenever they come to a crossroads in life and they have no clue what to do, I need them to pray.
I need them to become comfortable talking to their Heavenly Father. I do not want them to see God as a far off king which cannot be bothered with the care of their lives . I want them to see Him for who He is. I do not want them to see prayer as something that they do when they are afraid or have nothing left to do. I want them to communicate with God about any and everything in every and any season of their lives.
Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”
I need them to approach their Heavenly Father like the loving, caring Father He is.
I do not want them to see prayer as a burden or an obstacle that must be saturated with fancy phases out of the flesh but as a grace-given privilege that was granted out of Love. Prayer is a privilege that Jesus died for me to have, for them to have and for you to have.
Prayer, Friend, is the key to this life.
When we pray, we pray to the one whose name shakes the gates of hell and whom angels obey.
When we pray, we pray to the one who destroyed the works of satan and gave us eternal life.
When we pray, we pray to the only living God who is sovereign, omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient.
When we pray, we pray to the one who is in control of all things. Our prayers move the arms that move the world.
Friend in life, if we have sorrows, we can tell them to our Heavenly Father because He has sent us The Comforter.
If our sins are great, we can tell Him them because he alone can forgive our sins.
Let us be intentional in teaching our children to pray.
I hope these words of encouragement are helpful for you or someone you know.
You know I love hearing from you. Feel free to send me a message at any time.
